Sweeney RUSH Series To Sanction 2017 Crate Late Model Events At Georgetown Speedway

Written by Mike Leone

PULASKI, PA - On the heels of the announcement by Delaware International Speedway that the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Racing Series powered by Pace Performance will sanction their weekly Crate Late Model events, nearby Georgetown (DE) Speedway has followed suit announcing their 2017 Crate Late Model special events will be under the Sweeney RUSH banner!

Georgetown has three events on the schedule for RUSH Late Models in 2017.  The first is Thursday, May 11 as part of a three-night "Tri-State Challenge" with Potomac and Winchester Speedways.  The second is Sunday, July 2 teamed with Potomac, Winchester and Bedford Speedways for the "Independence Day Summer Classic".  The third is Saturday, October 28 during the season finale "Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend".  Each event will offer a minimum of $1,000 to-win and $100 to-start.

Having open communication between Georgetown, Delaware International, Potomac and Winchester Speedways has done great things for our racers and fans," stated Georgetown's second year promoter Brett Deyo.  "Weve been able to coordinate scheduling and now have the opportunity to put the regions Crate Late Models on a platform with the RUSH sanction.  The feedback so far has been outstanding!  Racers are looking forward to being able to crisscross the Mid-Atlantic, racing in three states (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia) under a common rules package thanks to RUSH.  Not to mention, the stakes have been risen for these drivers. RUSH offers a lucrative program they will now be eligible to chase.

RUSH member racers will be able to participate at Georgetown and be eligible for all of the weekly programs including the Sweeney Weekly Series Championship, the Pace Performance Summer Chase, along with the Bilstein Bandits and the Futures Cup for those eligible racers, when applicable.  While membership is not mandatory to compete in any RUSH-sanctioned event, membership also include a $100,000 excess participant accident policy, which is over and above drivers health insurance and speedways participant accident policy.

"I was thrilled to receive a call from Brett to have his Crate Late Model events at Georgetown be part of our RUSH program," said RUSH Series Director Vicki Emig.  "We've heard nothing but positive things about the resurgence of Georgetown and the positive vibe throughout the Northeast about Brett's promotional efforts.  It's great to finally be able to align with him and now have all Crate Late Model events in 2017 in the state of Delaware under the RUSH banner!  This joins with the successful RUSH Weekly Series programs at the Mid-Atlantic speedways of Potomac and Winchester, and brings everyone under the same umbrella."

The Georgetown events will be under the same rules package as Delaware International, which will allow the Delaware GM 602 competitors to burn-off their 2016 previously legal tires through the July 2 event; all other racers must utilize RUSH's Hoosier USA25 and/or 55 stamped Crate Racin' USA Tires. The DIS Engine Seal on GM 602s will be recognized at all Delaware and Georgetown events throughout the 2017 season.

With the exception of the following five weekends when the DIS Engine Seal will be permitted outside of DIS and Georgetown, April 27-29, July 27-29, and August 10-12 (Delaware/Potomac/Winchester) and May 11-13 and July 1-3 (Georgetown/Potomac/Winchester), those with the DIS Engine Seal wishing to compete at any other RUSH-sanctioned speedway must have their engine properly sealed under the RUSH sealing system clearly stated in the RUSH Technical Rules package.  Stay tuned for an announcement on a RUSH Authorized Engine Rebuilder being named for Delaware area racers.

Deyo enters his second year at the helm of the historic half-mile clay oval in Georgetown, Delaware.  He recently signed a three-year lease that runs through 2019 and improvements continue at the Sussex County track, which hosted its first race in 1950.  The speedway operates on a special-events-only schedule with high-profile programs from March through October.  For more information on Georgetown, check out their website at www.thegeorgetownspeedway.com.  You can like their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GeorgetownSpeedway and follow them on Twitter @thegtownspdwy.
