Live and Local Stock Car Racing Returns to Georgetown Speedway on Friday, June 1

GEORGETOWN, DE – Live and local stock car racing returns to Georgetown Speedway on Friday, June 1.

A full program of competition on the Sussex County half-mile oval is headlined by the Sunoco Modifieds taking part in qualifying and a 30-lap main event paying $3,000 to the winner, $500 for 10th and $300 to take the green flag.

The speedway will be back in action ‘under the lights after nearly a full month off from competition.

Joining the Sunoco Modifieds are the L&J Sheet Metal Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win), Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars and Little Lincolns.

After four appearances this season, there are no repeat Sunoco Modified winners at Georgetown.

Craig Von Dohren took the first checkered of 2018 on March 16 in a small-block-only event, with Ryan Watt annexing the March 17 big-block/small-block Short Track Super Series portion of the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial.

Stewart Friesen earned more than $6,000 for his efforts on April 19 in the ‘Battle of the Bay special.

The Deron Rust Memorial on May 4 was the most recent event, with Ryan Godown keeping David Van Horn at bay for a $3,396 top prize.

The L&J Sheet Metal Crate 602 Sportsman have been on the docket twice so far. Teenager Alex Yankowski won the March 17 Short Track Super Series opener. Brad Roberts added his name to the Georgetown win column on May 4. Both drivers earned $1,000 for their efforts.

Aside from the thrills on high-speed on-track action, Georgetown Speedway offers free parking, novelties and excellent food from Fat Daddys BBQ on-site.

On June 1, pit gates will open at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates unlock at 5 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:45 p.m., and racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

Admission for the event is $20 (Adults), $16 for Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Students (ages 13-17), $10 for Kids (ages 9-12) and Children 8 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35 (ages 13 and up), $10 (Kids ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
