Amantea Earns Top 10 During USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Race at Georgetown

Inside Line Promotions – BRIDGEPORT, N.J. (July 27, 2021) – Joey Amantea scored a weekend-best seventh-place finish at Georgetown Speedway Friday night during the first of two nights of racing with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars.

Amantea also competed on Saturday at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, where he finished 18th following an accident.

“You could say we had the best of both worlds as we had two nights with two different sets of results,” he said. “We’re fast and we know we’re gaining on things. We just need some luck to go our way and we’ll be ok.”

Amantea planned a full slate of wingless micro sprint racing early in the week, but engine troubles derailed his plans. He turned his focus toward the wingless 360ci sprint car and headed to Georgetown, Del., for a first-ever visit to Georgetown Speedway on Friday. Amantea kicked off the night by finishing fifth in a heat race and earning the 10th starting spot into the A Main. He gained three positions during the feature to score his sixth top-10 result of the season with the series.

“Georgetown is a pretty neat track and it was something I have yet to experience as a driver,” he said. “I made a few driver mistakes in the heat race and was doing all right in the feature before we got lapped. It’s unfortunate we got lapped as by that point the car was really good and the results don’t show how fast we actually were.”

Amantea then ventured to Bridgeport Motorsports Park – the site of his season-best effort of third place with the series in May. He started on the pole for a heat race, but a blown left-rear tire relegated him to a fourth-place finish and left him short of the feature redraw. He lined up 10th and was running as high as eighth when two cars made contact in front of him, which left him nowhere to go. The damage sustained ended his night early and he was credited with finishing 18th.

“Bridgeport is a track I really like and we were third quick in hot laps, but the blown tire killed us,” he said. “I was running pretty good in the feature and it was just a wrong place, wrong time deal and that ended our night pretty quickly unfortunately.”

The next Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars race is Saturday at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Va. He sits seventh in the standings and only trails fifth by 56 markers.

“We ran Winchester last year and I felt pretty good, but pill draw is going to be key early in the night and getting up front,” he said. “We could use a good weekend and I’m looking forward to getting back on track. Every race is another opportunity and hopefully this weekend will be ours.”

He also plans to race a micro sprint on Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.
