12k for the 12k: $12,000-to-win Gary Simpson Memorial at Georgetown Speedway July 22

Written by Chris Moore

GEORGETOWN, DE – 12K for the 12K.

On Friday, July 22, Blue Hen Construction presents the $12,000-to-win Gary Simpson Memorial Race at Georgetown Speedway.

The J.W. Brown Logging big-block/small-block Modifieds race for 32-laps around the progressively banked half-mile oval in search of the five-figure payday.

Gary Simpson was a Delaware resident who helped the growth of Georgetown Speedway before his passing in October of 2021.

Gary owned and fielded his No. 12K Modified driven most recently by New York stars Anthony Perrego, Larry Wight, Michael Maresca, and Pennsylvania native Alex Yankowski during his time as a car owner. Simpson, who was a driver before transitioning to a car owner, had a long friendship with Ricky Elliott, who worked on and drove the car as well.

Now Georgetown Speedway honors Simpson with a race paying $12,000-to-win in honor of his No. 12K racecar.

Milford, Del.s Jordan Watson has won each of the two J.W. Brown Logging Modified events thus far in the 2022 season, leading the pursuit of the $2,500 Sunoco Race Fuels Championship for the Modifieds.

The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman join the program as well for their second race of the 2022 season at the Southern Delaware half-mile.

The Crate 602 Sportsman race for 22 laps with $1,212 reserved for the winner, part of their chase for the $750 Sunoco Race Fuels Championship.

The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car Club, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers complete the program with 12-lap, features only affairs.

A pre-event fundraiser for PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) will take place, as well.

For the July 22 event, pit gates open at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates following at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. with racing set for 7:30 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $22 for Adults and $18 for Seniors (ages 65 & up) and Students (ages 13-17). Kids (ages 9-12) admission is $10 and Children 8 & under get in FREE.

Pit admission is $35 (ages 13 & up). Kids (ages 6-12) pit admission is $10 and $2 for Children ages 5 & under.

The night of racing – and every Georgetown Speedway race in the 2022 season – will air live and on-demand on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
