GEORGETOWN, DE – 150.
When the green flag flies at Georgetown Speedway for the rescheduled Melvin L. Joseph Memorial during Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco will be hosting its 150th event.
The Mid-Atlantic Championship weekend (Thurs.-Sat. Oct. 27-29) is on tap to be the most lucrative weekend in Delaware history.
The jam-packed weekend culminates in the 40-lap, $25,000-to-win ‘Melvin L. Joseph Memorial – the conclusion of both the Halmar International ‘Elite Series and the Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region.
Fitting that Georgetown Speedway would host the milestone event for the STSS, as the Sussex County half-mile has hosted more STSS events than any other venue to date.
The Oct. 29 event will be the 19th STSS big-block/small-block Modified race at the progressively banked half-mile.
Twenty-nine different facilities have hosted the STSS across 10 different states through the first 150 events.
The STSS will add two more facilities and the state of Texas to the list during the third annual Cajun Swing in early November.
The massive weekend kicks off on Thursday (Oct. 27) with the makeup date for the 50th annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race. The full night of racing includes feature events for the Modifieds, Super Late Models, Crate 602 Sportsman, and RUSH Late Models.
The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car Club, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers will also join the “Thursday night thunder.â
Friday (Oct. 28) features another full night of racing.
The PA/NJ spec small-blocks will battle for 30-laps in search of a $5,000 (with Gamblers Fee) top prize.
The STSS Modifieds and Super Late Models will also run Qualifiers before their main event programs on Saturday night.
The RUSH Late Models, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers return for the Friday night event.
The weekend concludes on Saturday (Oct. 29) with the 150th feature event for the STSS Modifieds worth $25,000 to the winner.
The Super Late Models take part in their 40-lap, $7,000-to-win (with Gamblers Fee), making a double headline event for the Saturday program.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman will also be on hand for their Championship Round of the Belmonts Garage South Region. The 25-lap race rewards the victor with a $1,500 top prize.
The Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers round out the program.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
