Georgetown Hosts Friday Practice, Jake Marine Memorial Moved to Sunday Afternoon

GEORGETOWN, DE – Practice for Sunday.
Georgetown Speedway held its second open practice session of the 2024 season, setting the stage for Sunday’s ‘Jake Marine Memorial’ to kick off racing at the Sussex County oval in the new year.
The ‘Jake Marine Memorial’ has been postponed to Sunday (March 10) due to a forecast of rain throughout the day on Saturday (March 9).
Friday night’s practice was held with much success despite more than three inches of rain falling in the Georgetown area throughout much of the week.
A solid 54 racecars participated in the open practice, hailing from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and Connecticut.
Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc laid down the fastest time of the night for the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds in the first session with an 18.516 lap time around the wide half-mile oval.
Other session leaders were East Greenbush, N.Y.’s Bobby Hackel IV; King Ferry, N.Y.’s Mike Mahaney; and Bohemia, N.Y.’s Dillon Steuer.
The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman led the way with 22 different drivers signing in for practice on Friday night.
Boyertown, Pa.’s Logan Watt laid down the quickest time of the night with a time of 19.873.
The First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models, Feebs Distilling Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks, and Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car Club were also represented for Friday’s test and tune session.
Attention now turns to Sunday’s ‘Jake Marine Memorial’ to open the season for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco.
The STSS Modifieds open up the NJ Quality Drywall South Region and the Ollie’s Overall Championship with a 40-lap, $8,500-to-win main event.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman are also on the docket with a 25-lap, $1,850-to-win feature. The event holds the place of the opener to the Belmont’s Garage South Region.
The Feebs Distilling Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks are also on the card with 12-lap, features only affairs.
For the March 10 event, pit gates open at 11 a.m., with the grandstands unlocking at 12 p.m. Penske Racing Shocks hot laps are slated for 1:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 2:30 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $25 for Adults, $20 for Seniors (ages 65 & up) and Students (ages 13-17). Kids (ages 9-12) are admitted for $10 and Children 8 & under are FREE.
Pit admission is $45 (ages 13 & up, Non-Members). Kids (ages 6-12) are admitted for $10 and Children ages 5 & under are $2.

The entire night of racing will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) via the annual subscription.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
