Home Turf: Jordan Watson Scores $3,000 Georgetown Friday Victory

Written by Chris Moore

GEORGETOWN, DE – Home turf.

Delaware resident Jordan Watson picked up his first win of the season at Georgetown Speedway on Friday night.

The Milford, Del., native led the final 23 laps of the 25-lap race, picking up the win and taking home the $3,000 top prize in Millman’s NAPA Modified competition.

“We’ve worked hard at it,” a relieved Watson proclaimed. “We needed this one for some confidence though for everybody on our team.”

Multiple yellow flags over the course of the race never let Watson get away and kept runner-up Danny Bouc within striking distance throughout the race.

“It’s hard when you’re leading and you don’t know where everybody else is running,” Watson explained. “I moved to the top in (turns) three and four… I don’t know if that was the right move, but I felt like I could be more consistent up there.”

Watson, piloting his family-owned No. 1J, started from the outside of the front row, and on a lap 3 restart, slid by fellow Delaware native Carson Wright to take the lead he would never relinquish.

Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc came home in the runner-up position in his Craig and Leslie Pondish No. 6 and Walden, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego rounded out the podium in the Vinnie Salerno owned No. 4*.

Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown came home in fourth in his No. 26 machine and Bohemia, N.Y.’s Dillon Steuer rounded out the top five in his family-owned No. 6D.

Collegeville, Pa.’s Alex Bright led all 20 laps of the USAC East Coast Sprints Cars A-Main for a dominant victory for the wingless warriors.

Bright drew the pole starting position leading to an impressive victory in the only appearance of 2024 for the Rapid Tire Services USAC East Coast Sprint Cars.

Bobby Butler, Christian Bruno, Steven Drevicki, and Ed Aikin rounded out the top five.

Chalfont, Pa.’s Greg Humlhanz went on an impressive drive in Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman action.

Humlhanz came from the 11th starting position following the redraw but took the lead on lap six and never looked back from there.

Scott Hitchens, Ryan Simmons, Matt Smith, and Jared Millman rounded out the top five.

Georgetown, Del.’s Matt Hill clicked off another First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Model victory, leading all but one lap in the 20-lap feature event for the win.

Trevor Collins, Nick Davis, David Smith, and Ben Scott were the top five.

Harold Sylvester (Modified) & Garret Reagan (Late Model) were the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars winners in their 12-lap feature.

Delmar, Del.’s Sean Martinez picked up his first career Delaware Super Truck at Georgetown Speedway on Friday night over Tony Guinta and T.J. Williams.

Laurel, Del.’s Josh Dahling was victorious in the 12-lap Feebe’s Distilling Delmarva Charger over Robbie Strain and Randy Merritt.

Georgetown Speedway racing action resumes on Friday, May as the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds and the Stockley Speed & Supply Super Late Models co-headline the Friday night affair. Also on the card are the Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman, First State Chevrolet Late Models, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Feebs Distilling Delmarva Chargers.

The Zerbini Family Circus visits Georgetown for two days of family fun on Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 starting at 6 p.m. both nights.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
